SS Nomadic in Belfast
Jul. 2nd, 2007 05:41 pmMy mum and I went down to the docks yesterday to see the SS Nomadic, the last of the infamous White Star Line ships and was the one that took passengers out to the Titanic in 1912. It was amazing to see that she's still with us and that she's 96 years old (built in 1911). I'm really glad I went because I thought that mum was joking, thinking there was no way it was her. ;) This was all part of the Belfast Maritime Festival by the way. About 30 photos in all.
Nomadic with the White Star Line flag.

Some dinnerware items.

Me on the bench (originally this ran right the way round the walls). The wall plaster decoration behind me is original! ;)

Costumes!! :D :D :D Rose's overcoat.

Overcoat again plus sleeves. They did have Jack's 3rd class outfit but I don't think it was the real one worn by Leo; it looked too 'new'. However I think all of Rose's costumes were the real mccoy.

The dress used in the famous "I'm flying!" scene; I love the design and the rest of the outfit is made from velvet.

Shoes to match - thought I'd snap them since you can't really see them in the movie. ;)

Bits and pieces, looks like the machine used for tapping out messages to other ships.

Kate Winslet's lifejacket worn during the sinking scenes.

Rose's boarding outfit - the massive hat was missing lol!!

Me infront of the grand staircase LMAO. You can see that bench from earlier too. This boat has carried some very famous people in it's time, including Molly Brown, J.J. Astor, Benjamin Guggenheim and even Charlie Chaplin.

The Heart of the Ocean necklace. This thing is huge!!

Original window.

How a 1st class dinner table would be set.

The Nomadic again. She actually should have an extra 2 layers on top but these were removed. However, there are plans to add these 2 layers again as well as restoring her completely to her former glory. I think the staff mentioned she may be used again as a 'ferry' vessel...

The Grand Turk, built in Turkey in 1996.

GT again. :) This reminds me of the pirate ships in the POTC movies. ;)

The famous Samson & Goliath cranes overlooking the harbour where the Nomadic, Titanic, Britannic and Olympic were all built.

The Jeanie Johnston, built in Ireland in 2002. Check out the painted lady on the front!! XD

An original door design on the Nomadic, very similar to Titanic's layout.

SS Nomadic again - the window/white paint layout is very similar to that of the Titanic, Britannic and Olympic.

The Artemis, built in Holland in 1926.

(l-r) Nomadic, Jeanie Johnston and Grand Turk.

Other side of the Nomadic. This ship came very close to being scrapped 3 times, but she's home now until September for the meantime. :)

Yours truely, with the Jeanie Johnston and the Grand Turk behind...

Random mast shot #1.

Random pirate captain dude. XD Not sure who he's meant to be...Blackbeard perhaps?

Nomadic's bow with landmark Napoleon's nose (hill outline).

Random mast shot #2.

Titanic wall mural about 5 mins drive from the harbour.

Most of the Nomadic staff are volunteers and they are always looking for people to do voluntary work on the boat itself so I thought I would sign up because we have got a fantastic piece of history sitting in Belfast harbour, the last remaining link to the Titanic, so it would be brilliant to work on her. The guy I spoke with said they'd be in touch in the next fortnight or so, so we'll see what happens... ;)
