Episode 2 of Jane Eyre (2006)
Oct. 2nd, 2006 12:47 am----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jane manages to wake Rochester from his burning bed. They both manage to put the fire out and Rochester briefly leaves. She waits in his room, watching through the window as Rochester's lamplight moves toward the North Tower. On his return, Rochester draws Jane close to him.

After the 'excitement' of the night before, Jane rises to find Rochester has left Thornfield without word of when he might return. When he eventually comes back, he brings with him a group of distinguished guests, including the beautiful and accomplished Blanche Ingram and her imposing and opinionated mother, Lady Ingram.

Below stairs, gossip is rife that Rochester is to be married to Miss Ingram. Jane's disappointment at this news is both raw and visible. Rochester catches up with her, asking what is wrong but she claims that she's just tired. Rochester allows her the night off but after that insists Jane attends the evening soirees at every opportunity.

The guests are stuck indoors unable to go riding because of the weather. Rochester tells Jane to sit with the Ingrams who make it very clear that children with bad blood ought to be punished and will end up in hell. Jane however disagrees, saying that "all children need to be loved", silently remembering her atrocious childhood. That night, everyone has a go at a ouija board but when it's Blanche's turn and the board spells out 'HEARTLESS', she decides to go to bed and read. Once again, Rochester has to leave and heads off the following day.

Whilst he is gone, a mysterious guest called Mason turns up uninvited, and a fortune teller comes to Thornfield. The party have their fortunes read one by one. When Blanche returns from having had hers done, she seems a little disappointed. The teller will not leave however until she has read Jane's fortune & Jane goes to see her.

The fortune reading has been arranged by Rochester, who was hiding behind the curtain the whole time, trying to find out more about Jane (and everyone else). Jane is surprised but can't stay mad at him & on informing her master that Mason is now among the other guests, Rochester is clearly unsettled by the news.

That night, Jane dreams about a little girl screaming and the whole house is awoken by (real) blood-curdling screams. Rochester calms the situation, but Jane realises something is badly wrong when she sees blood dripping from his injured arm. He asks Jane for assistance, and takes her into the North Tower to tend to Mason who has been violently attacked. Jane stays with him whilst Rochester fetches the doctor, but she is frightened by loud banging on the other side of the door.

Early the next morning, before dawn and before the guests get up, Rochester & Jane see Mason off in a carriage. Later, Jane asks Rochester for some time off; her aunt is dying and Bessie, one of the Reeds' servants, comes to Thornfield asking Jane to visit. Rochester reluctantly agrees. He offers a lot of money to Jane for her journey but she refuses the vast amount and settles for a little less. He makes sure to hold on to some of her wages so she will have to come back for it. ;)

As she leaves Thornfield, Jane sees Rochester on his horse, but Blanche Ingram appears to be riding with him across the grounds. As both parties leave the courtyard, it appears that someone or something is watching them from a window. Who or what is hidden in the North Tower?

SQUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!
So much
- That first scene when Jane saves Rochester & the little bit when he was standing very close in front of her as he put his dressing gown on her, in front of the fire. WOW...O.O Here's a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kiwicGfo3Hw.
-
- Jane kissing her own hand because Rochester touched it & her grinning like a schoolgirl hee! Come on, we've all been there haven't we? ;) :D
- Love the fact that Jane couldn't stay mad at him for long after the whole gypsy/fortune teller disguise thing - sneaky!! ;)
- Rochester's grin after closing the door when the gypsy leaves (11th pic from the bottom). ♥ *swoons*
- The quote after the fortune teller leaves:
Rochester: (to Jane) "I wish I was stranded on a desert island somewhere, with only you for company." ♥ *THUD!!*
- Rochester: (to Jane) "What if I asked you to do something for me and it was wrong?"
- Did not like Miss Ingram, typical snobby rich bitch, but I'm assuming that's the point since I've never read the book. I might hunt it out once this little miniseries comes to an end. ;)
- Near the end just before Miss Eyre had to go to see her evil dying aunt; the whole deal with the wages etc. *squees madly* The grin! Rochester's eyes that said 'I'm only teasing'!:
Rochester: "How much have you Jane, in all the world?" (Jane takes her purse from her dress pocket & empties it into her hand)
Jane: "Five shillings, sir."
Rochester: (looking over his shoulder at Blanche) "Here, take 50 pounds."
Jane: "No, sir. You only owe me 15 and I've no change."
Rochester: "I don't want change Jane, you know that! Take your wages. (Jane just looks at him) You're right; better not give you all that, you might stay away for 3 months. Here, (reaches into his 'wallet' and pulls out more money) there's 10. (Jane hestitantly takes it) Well isn't that enough?!"
Jane: "Yes, sir. (Rochester chuckles) But you still owe me five."
Rochester: (putting his 'wallet' back in his inside pocket, grinning) "Then come back for it." (starts to turn away)
Jane: "Sir I have to ask you something else, in matter of business. You have as good as said you intend to be married..."
Rochester: "Really? It has been settled then has it? You've decided Miss Ingram is to be my bride? (pause, in a hushed tone) Now I see it; you're going to prevail upon this miserable family to find you a new situation! Ungrateful girl, admit it!"
Jane: "No, sir I told you they do not like me sir. To offer such a service I'd...I shall advertise."
Rochester: "Devil you will! (hushed tone) Advertise! I wish I had only offered you a sovereign and not a 10 whole pounds! Give me back nine. (Jane hides the money behind her back) Jane, I have need of it!"
Jane: (smiling) "No sir! I do not trust you!" (Rochester grins)
Rochester: "Hmm."
Jane: (goes to leave)
- "Don't go Jane...What will I do without your help?" OMG.
- Just who is the mysterious person glancing out the window??? O.O
Cannot wait for next week's! ^_^
