I found that the three column one is the easiest to put a banner picture above. That is what I use. There are others, but you have to be a bit more tech savvy and while I would like to be, I am a bit on the lazy side about that.

You have to use CSS, but there's a very helpful guide here that I used to do mine. It takes a bit of fiddling about with sizes - I found that 950 pixels is about the right width.
